The blockbuster combination, The Da Vinci Code book
and movie, are successfully hijacking Christianity. According to a
700 Club source, missionaries at Campus Crusade For Christ and reports
from various Churches, Christians by the thousands are apparently
being shaken to doubt the Divine Authorship of the Bible and the Divinity
of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Why are Christians falling prey to Hollywood’s
hype and the secular marketing of The Da Vinci Code propaganda and
believing the lie, packaged as truth, rather than rely on, lean on
and adhere to the Word of God? The Bible predicted such an apostasy
would take place in the last days and surely this symptom rather than
cause doubt among Believers should fuel their faith to the reliability
of the Word of God.
“In the beginning was the Word (Christ), and
the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself” and “Every
Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable
for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction
of error and discipline in obedience, for the training in righteousness
(in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose,
and action). So that the man of God may be complete and proficient,
well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
Rather than fall for the same old gnostic heresies
that prevailed during the early church, today’s Christian should
be equipped and boldly outspoken against the The Da Vinci Code message
which attempts to show Jesus as a merely “an historical figure
of staggering influence, an inspired leader” and “a mortal
teacher”. The underlying theme throughout the Da Vinci Code
is that Jesus came to marry and celebrate the divine feminine (a familiar
feminist gospel rampant today) and collect around himself an elite
circle to further his earthly dynasty similar to the behaviors of
gurus from India and other spiritual teachers.
The truth is Jesus came, not to win friends and influence
public opinion (otherwise He wouldn’t have died on the cross)
but to freely give His life for sinners. He said he came to separate
those who believe in Him from those who reject Him. He came so that
the blind may see and those that see (through human enlightenment
and reasoning) may be blinded by the simplicity of faith in Jesus’
signs and wonders. (John 9)
He came to redeem mankind from our sin, an important
prerequisite for those wishing to have a personal relationship with
a Holy God. Jesus Christ, our High Priest, removed our impurities
through His death on the Cross. He became our sin that we may become
His Righteousness and live in the presence of God. What a Gracious
trade. To reduce the mission of Jesus on earth to one of marriage
with Mary Magdalene and parenthood is nothing short of perverse futility
and should be an outrage to Christians not a vehicle of doubt.
A book and film battering the foundation of Christianity
– how should we respond to the accusations? Paul writes in 2
Tim 4:2-5 that we should “Preach the Word; be prepared in season
and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage-with great patience
and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not
put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they
will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their
itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the
truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations,
endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties
of your ministry.”
Since the beginning of time we, the living Church,
have never had such an exciting challenge before us. We have a unique
opportunity to converse with those asking questions about the Da Vinci
Code. Through the two-pack special viewers can learn the truth of
the authenticity of the Bible as proved by archeology and history.
Indeed, the heresies perpetuated in the Da Vinci Code only legitimize
the authority of Holy Scripture.
The Bible predicted that many, in the last days,
would turn to lies and fables preferring lies to The Truth (Jesus
said, “I am the Truth”). Rejection of Jesus was the human
condition paramount even when Jesus walked the earth. These sentiments
continued to grow in the early Church needing Paul’s continual
warnings to be on guard against false prophets, false teachers and
false teachings that denied Jesus Divinity and the simplicity of His
Gospel of Truth.
Today, the ravenous wolves still proliferate and
the naïve church is listening to the wrong shepherds and in turn,
being led astray. Jesus asked His disciples, when public opinion (similar
to today) questioned Jesus’ Divinity, “but who do you
say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “, the Son of the
Living God.” And Jesus said, “Blessed art thou, Simon
Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but
my Father which is in heaven.” It was on such a statement of
faith that Jesus said He’d build His church. Oh! That we would
be encouraged to be as bold in the Spirit today when those around
us are asking, “who is Jesus, is he the one portrayed in the
Da Vinci Code or another?”
